Power does not endure because it creates, persuades, or even coerces. It endures because it captures the channels through which people access resources, decisions, protection, and truth. This essay proposes the Intermediary Theory of Rule: domination emerges when essential social conduits become monopolised and irreplaceable. Civilisational progress, therefore, is not the rotation of rulers, but the restoration of replaceable and transparent connections.
